The Provence

Sun and blue sky, cypresses, olive and plane trees, intoxicating scent of lavender and rosemary, a whiff of garlic, goat's cheese, olive oil, truffle and wine.
The Romans already knew how to cultivate this unique region between the Pyrenees and the lower Rhone. The visitor encounters impressive evidence of this time with every step he takes. The poet Paul Arene from Provence called his homeland "Avant-Paradis", what means: "in front of the Garden of Eden".
The today world-famous painters Vincent van Gogh and Paul Monet let themselves be inspired by this fascinating landscape. This can be recognized impressively in their masterpieces.
Contemporary artists, too, such as the British author Peter Mayle, were irreversibly attracted by the charm of this region.
Whoever reads his bestsellers about Provence immediately feels himself placed in this landscape with its friendly, open people who can sometimes also be a bit queer.
And you can still see them today, men with a glass of Pastis in one hand and Boule balls in the other hand. They are playing under the plane trees when the evenings are mild, and already from a distance you can hear the click and clack of the Boule balls.
